Thank You! Bay State Games 2019

The 2019 Bay State Games Figure Skating Competition came to a close one week ago today. After a week of recuperation, it’s high time we extend our gratitude to all of the volunteers who turned out to help in a multitude of invaluable ways. From 9:30 PM Friday evening to 9PM Sunday night, we successfully hosted over 277+ athletes, their coaches, families and judges. This is a tradition that goes back 35 years for our club and is something of a rite of passage for our membership.

Those of us with graduating Seniors competing in their final Bay State Games before heading off to college are incredibly grateful for the support of the families of our younger skaters, many of whom are not yet old enough to compete at the Games. We remember the early days of our involvement with the club and how much we all learned about skating and our club through our annual participation in this event.

A true testament to our gratitude and the ongoing success of this event is the longevity of many of our volunteers. We have volunteers returning in some cases for their 35th year – well after their own skaters have graduated. We also see many familiar faces coming back to cheer our competitors on year after year.

We would like to especially thank Barb Cece, Regina Hill, Sara Senecal, Freda Bennet, and Lori and Everett Fuller – all Alumni parents who returned and devoted considerable volunteer hours to this year’s competition.

As for our athletes, they did us proud! With many strong performances, personal achievements and, yes, medals, we have much to celebrate as a club. And behind all of their successes, of course, are the professionals -- our coaches who not only train our skaters but truly prepare them for the challenges of competition and life.

This is a defining event in our Season schedule, but we now turn our focus to the Annual Show where we showcase our youngest skaters and their accomplishments this year alongside our upper level skaters. It’s another chance to see the progression of a skater’s career, and it’s another chance to get involved and support our athletes!
